1958 Paid Off for refit in Devonport then 2nd Destroyer Squadron for Home and Mediterranean service.

January 1961 Paid Off into Reserve for 6 years.

1967 Work-up at Portland.

17/03/67 to 28/03/67 The Torrey Canyon incident. The Torrey Canyon was an oil tanker that went aground and spilled all her oil which threatened the beaches of the south west of Great Britain. Along with the Fleet Air Arm were the ships DARING, BARROSA, DELIGHT, AURORA, ESKIMO, CARYSFORT, BLACKWOOD, CLARVESTON, WOTTON and NURTON. Other ships involved around the Channel Islands were PELLEW, LALESTON, BELTON, HIGHBURTON and SOBERTON. She was successfully bombed and shelled.

17th July 1967 deployed to the Far East.

4th July 1968 arrived Devonport.

19th August 1968 Gibraltar for Guardship duties.

23rd September 1968 Portsmouth - Admiral of the Fleet, Earl Mountbatten of Burma  came onboard for an informal visit. It was a nostalgic moment for him, as he had commanded the last HMS Daring in 1934 and had been C-in-C Med when the present Daring first commissioned for service in 1952.

27th September Daring arrives in Stockholm for British Week.

9th October arrived Devonport

December 1968 to Reserve.

June 1971 arrived Blyth to be broken up.

 

Note:

The DC Group were sent to the Mediterranean on completion whilst the AC Group joined the Home Fleet. The Daring group of ships became the 2nd Destroyer Squadron, while the second group became the 5th Destroyer Squadron. The two squadrons were rotated between the Mediterranean and Home Waters.
