Goliath

HMS Goliath

Goliath was a Canopus class battleship that was built on Friday 25th March 1898. Goliath had been bombarding the Turkish positions on Cape Helles before anchoring for the night on Wednesday 12 May 1915 in Morto Bay, but was unfortunately in an exposed anchorage. The Turkish torpedo boat Muavenet, under the command of the German Rudolph Firle, sortied from the Dardanelles and torpedoed the elderly battleship on Thursday 13th May 1915.
