HMS Kirkliston is just one out of a total of 118 Ton Class minesweepers that were built in the Fifties. All but two were built for the Royal Navy, the other two for the South African Navy. Some of these minesweepers, Kirkliston being the first, were converted into minehunters in the Sixties.
