The Guildford Cathedral Connection

This large wooden cross was erected in 1933 at the top of Stag Hill in Guildford, Surrey. Here is the site where the proposed cathedral would be built. Made from the teak timbers of HMS Ganges, the old training ship that was launched at Bombay in 1821.

The cross remains to this day just east of Guildford cathedral.

In 1991/92 this cross was renovated by T.S. Fenner and son and was funded by the HMS Ganges Association (Solent Division).
