LIFE IN A BLUE SUIT |
 |

|

-
What is it like serving in
the Royal Navy?
-
What do sailors actually
do?
-
Do you go anywhere
interesting?
-
Which trades and skills are
taught?
-
Is it ever boring in the
Royal Navy?
-
What do you do when you're
at sea and not on watch?
-
What's the food like?
-
What type of sports are
played?
These are just some of the
most frequent questions a sailor gets asked. Choose any ship's
commissioning book from the library and you'll find all the answers and
more to
the questions above. See how the many branches of the Royal Navy onboard
ship defend our nation. See also the differences between serving on big ships and small
ships. What sports they play.
The help given by Royal Navy ships to countries requiring aid due from earthquakes,
tsunamis, hurricanes, tornados etc. Well worth reading is the account of
'Crossing the
Line' (Part 8) ceremony, which gives a full description of this
traditional occasion when crossing the equator.
I'm sure you'll find more than a few surprises along the way. For
instance, did you know that the "Mighty Hood" was the first
British warship to have a purpose built chapel onboard? |

These ships' Commissioning Books have been published on this website for your interest and enjoyment. Would you like to share your ship's commissioning book for us all to enjoy too? If you have any ship's commissioning books to share then please get in contact with David. You can either scan the book's pages at 300dpi and forward on a CD by post or just send the book. If you're able to enclose a self addressed prepaid envelope then it would be very much appreciated as I am unwaged due to
chronic illness. If you can't afford to then no matter, any sacrifice is
a small price to pay in keeping these books alive. The priority here is to preserve our commissioning books. The book(s) will be cared for and returned in the same
condition received.
Dave Axford
For those of
you that have already shared your Commissioning Books, many
thanks and much appreciated. Together we
are helping
to preserve the Royal Navy's history from the valuable point of view of
the ship's companies - the men who lived and worked on these
warships.
