The Union FlagOnly Royal Navy vessels
are permitted the wearing of the Union Flag on the jackstaff. Whenever
the Sovereign is onboard ship the Union Flag is also worn at the
masthead, together with the Royal Standard and Admiralty Flag. The Union
Flag (Jack) can also be worn at the gaff or yardarm to denote that a
Court Martial is being held. The Jack is hoisted at Colours (09:00 or 08:00 in summer) by all Royal Navy warships in commission when alongside or at anchor each day, along with the White Ensign. At Sunset the Jack along with the White Ensign is ceremoniously hauled down. |
