"Vade mecum of scriptural references"  --( a handbook or other aid carried on the person for immediate use when needed)... is a term which can be used to describe a guide to quotations taken from the bible, which have been invaluable to Captains, Signalmen and Bridge Teams for many years, some of the quotations are well known whilst others require some research to meet or respond to a situation.

These quotations are used both within signals or singly to suit or amplify the occasion by imparting to the recipient the significance contained within and can be transmitted by any method of communication.

Bible quotations have the power and  penetration to inspire, provoke, amuse or defuse a situation with an aptitude all of their own..  and are used to  comment, commend or rebuke, some are serious, some are humorous and, of those a few funny only to those at the receiving end.

The occasions when suitable bible quotations would be used are too numerous to list here... there is an in-depth listing with meanings contained within the guide... some examples of ocassions are as follows... when sighting another,  farewell,  parting company,  not obeying instructions, excessive smoke, bad lookout, failing to respond to a signal, good or bad work... to name a few.
